Lifetime Learning tackles the Bay of Pigs, Israel and Palestine, and the history of witches
/The Winter-Spring Lifetime Learning session enters its third week with the following courses, all of which are available online via Zoom while four are also offered in person at the Snow Library. All are recorded, and registered participants will receive a Zoom link to the class recording for future viewing.
The final class of “Murder Will Out! The Evolution of the British Mystery Novel” will meet on Monday, March 10, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Mike McCartney will conclude his examination of the history of the British mystery novel.
On Tuesday, March 11, from 10:30 to noon, “Lost in the Bay of Pigs: Eisenhower, Kennedy, & the CIA” is presented by Peter Zimmerman of Harvard’s Kennedy School. In one class he will explain how the decisions of Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy and CIA director Dulles led to the fiasco in the Bay of Pigs.
Peggy Kelleher concludes her course “WICKED! Witches, Sorcerers, and Seers in the Greco-Roman World” on Wednesday, March 12, from 10:30 to noon. This course is Zoom only.
On Thursday, March 13, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Russ Leng will teach the second class of “Israel and the Palestinians: Two Major Issues.” This class examines “Palestine’s Future: Is Peace Still Possible?” Leng will provide historical background before describing the current situation and possible outcomes. This course is Zoom only.
Joe Marchio presents the third class of “American Sacred Music” on Thursday, March 13, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. He’ll discuss the evolution and influence of traditional worship music, gospel music and spirituals. The course concludes on March 20.
