An artist reception for Aaron Souza, whose works are on display in the Craine Gallery’s February exhibit, will be held in the Craine Room. Yarmouth Port-based artist Aaron Souza’s exhibit of new paintings and silverpoint drawings, titled "Land, Light and Figure," showcases paintings combining traditional technique with Impressionist color sensibility, exploring the beauty of the Cape Cod landscape, the interplay of light and color, and the human figure, along with a group of silverpoint drawings of coastal New England.

"Land, Light and Figure," will offer viewers an opportunity to experience the world through Aaron's eyes, as he invites them to share in the beauty of the Cape Cod landscape and the human form modeled in full chroma. Aaron’s work captures the essence of a scene through vibrant color and a keen understanding of light. He draws inspiration from the local landscape, and the American Impressionists, from Charles Hawthorne, Emile Gruppé and the Boston School artists. He studied at the Cape School of Art in Provincetown, MA, after completing degrees in Painting and Art Education at Umass Dartmouth. At the Cape School of Art, he honed his skills under the tutelage of renowned artists. This training, combined with a deep appreciation for nature and the human figure, informs his unique artistic vision.

Aaron completed his BFA in Painting from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2006, as well as a master’s degree in Art Education in 2018. In 2012 Aaron began studying at the Cape School of Art to help gain a new perspective through plein air painting, and the study of light and color. Based out of Yarmouth Massachusetts, he creates both studio and en plein air paintings that capture the vibrancy of light and shadow in full chroma.
