The following classes are offered during week six of the Fall Lifetime Learning session. All are available online via Zoom as well as in person at the library’s Craine Room.

On Monday, Oct. 30, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Lifetime Learning is proud to offer a course by filmmaker Allison Argo: “Lending a Voice to Those Who Are Silenced.” Allison has films which have been shown on PBS and National Geographic and have won multiple awards. In this course she will share three of her films, discuss the story behind each, and answer questions. The first film is “Crash: A Tale of Two Species.” . . .

Fall Lifetime Learning begins Sept. 26

The Friends of Snow Library's Fall Lifetime Learning session begins on Tuesday, Sept. 26 and ends on Nov. 16 with 24 new courses presented in two formats: online via Zoom or in person in the Craine Room at the library. This session has something for everyone and includes many popular past presenters as well as exciting new ones, including an Emmy-winning nature film
director.

Friends of Snow Library seek book donations

The Friends of Snow Library Book Sale Committee is looking for gently used books for their very successful weekly Book Sales. Paperback “Beach Reads,” newer books in all subject areas, art books, poetry, classics, and children’s books are sought. The Friends also sell a variety of hardcover books, audio books, CDs and DVDs, and will gladly consider what you have to offer if it is clean and in good shape. (No textbooks, encyclopedias, or travel books, please).

Donations may be made between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the Saturday Book Sales, or you may drop off up to two bags or boxes of books at Snow Library during business hours. The Friends do make house calls on Cape Cod for large donations. Call Snow Library for more information. Proceeds from the Friends’ book sales go right back into the library to purchase museum passes, periodicals, children’s programs, and new technology.

Lifetime Learning's spring session concludes April 27 

The  Friends of Snow Library’s 2023 winter-spring Lifetime Learning session concludes the week of April 24 with three one-time-only courses while three other courses wrap up.  Of special note: on Wednesday, April 26, from 10:30 to noon, Steve Gass will present a free class on “Building Our Future: The Case for a New Snow Library” about charting a new path forward for this heart of the community of Orleans.

Teacher and yoga instructor Katherine Dowd Gulotta offers “Keys to Wellness at Any Age: Breathing & Yin Yoga” on Tuesday, April 11 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. as the Friends of Snow Library’s spring Lifetime Learning series continues. The first class in her two-part course focuses on “The Healing Power of Breath,” exploring easy no-stress practices that immediately boost health.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to learn the new software system which was implemented throughout the 36 CLAMS libraries on Feb. 27.

CLAMS and library staff have been working diligently in the days leading up to and following the implementation to ensure a smooth transition between software systems, but inevitably there are unexpected glitches. Many of you have experienced problems logging into either the CLAMS catalog or Libby/Overdrive. CLAMS is prioritizing all the problems people are reporting, and successfully logging into your account and utilizing eMaterials is high on the list.

Registration for Lifetime Learning opens Feb. 6

The Friends of Snow Library will begin accepting registrations for the 2023 winter-spring Lifetime Learning Session on Monday, Feb. 6. Classes begin on Monday, Feb. 27 and cover a broad range of topics, from the Ukraine War to Irish mythology, American poetry to Cape Cod coyotes, the art of Edward Hopper to the music of the Baroque. Notice to patrons regarding new integrated library system

On February 27, the CLAMS network will roll out new staff and patron software. Here is what you need to know:

All out-of-network interlibrary loans, including from Commonwealth Catalog, will be suspended beginning Friday, Feb. 3 and will resume on Monday, Feb. 27.

Your current reading history will not be transferred to the new system at the outset. More information will be provided when available.
